Buzz Rickson's William Gibson M-65 3rd Model BlackBuzz Rickson's
The collaboration between Buzz and William Gibson was established in 2004 after Gibson attributed a black MA-1 to Buzz Rickson's, worn by the main character in his novel 'Pattern Recognition'. The jacket didn't exist, but such demand for the jacket spurred Buzz Rickson's to reach out and create a collection inspired by the fictional all-black MA-1.
The M65 is arguably recognised as the definitive US Army Field Jacket. Introduced to the US Army during the Vietnam conflict, with its durable and windproof material, the M65 was made to withstand the often extreme climates of the country. Made to adapt to the tropical climate of Vietnam, the 3rd model is meant to be lighter than its predecessors, which were made of heavier cotton satin.
Staying true to the original M-65 3rd Model, this has been cut in Japan from a blend of cotton and nylon, to achieve the desired quick-drying, humidity-cutting effect in tropical climates. The M65 features a zip front using a military spec brass zip and uses mil spec urea buttons throughout. The jacket features four large pockets, waist and bottom drawstrings, epaulettes on shoulders as well as a concealed hood in the collar.
