Sun Surf SS14360 'Sailor Moku' Palaka JacketClutch Cafe
Favoured by Hawaiian plantation workers in the early 1800s, the 'Palaka' (transliterated from 'Frock') originated when British and American sailors arrived in the Sandwich Islands. Wearing loose-fitting, long-sleeved jackets produced in cheap checked cloth, the native's name altered from describing the jacket to becoming a descriptor of the fabric's pattern instead.
Generally seen in navy and white iterations, the 'Sailor Moku' from Sun Surf is a unique twist on a classic.
Made from a finely woven 10.25oz chambray denim, the jacket is cut to a classic chore jacket pattern, with open collar, patch check pocket and two flapped and buttoned hip pockets.
Perfect as a layering piece or simple lightweight shirt jacket, the Sailor Moku 'Palaka' makes for a perfect summer jacket with a splash of colour.
