The B-7 Parka is an extremely rare part of flight jacket history; produced for only one year between 1941-1942, these parkas have become highly sought after by collectors worldwide.

Developed in 1940, the B-7 was designed to protect airmen and ground-crew against the coldest of conditions in far-flung outposts like Alaska and at the freezing temperatures of high altitude flight.

Made from a thick, North American sheepskin, the shell in 'natural tanned' (unlike other sheepskin jackets which where top-coated with an acrylic lacquer) it has a slight suede feel to the outer and a gentle patina throughout. The sheepskin is strong with no areas of notable damage or repair.

Our example is made by Aero Leathers Beacon NY; a prolific manufacture of flight clothing from the USAAF awarded many different contacts across varied designs.

The parka is hip length with some unique details to this design, such as: fully taped seams using chrome-tanned horsehide; two Talon zipped hip pockets; horsehide patch cargo pockets; M-39 triple stamped Talon front zipper; covered with a leather reinforced buttons closure. The hood is added to the collar of the jacket with horsehide reinforcements and is fur-trimmed with wrap-around face guard fastened with a leather belt and buckle.

This is a piece of military history, which is in astonishing condition for its age and field of operation. There are light stains throughout and one small tear in the sheepskin where the left patch pocket is sewn to the shell.

As a piece of history, we would not recommend wearing this as roughly as you might a reproduction, though we leave this up to the owner.
