Buzz Rickson's BR14140 B-9 USAAF ParkaBuzz Rickson's
Known for their excellent militaria reproductions Buzz Rickson turn their attention to the USAF B-9 parka, a seminal piece of clothing design produced by the Air Force in conjunction with out door clothing manufacturer Eddie Bauer during WWII.
Eddie Bauer pioneered the development of the first 'down jackets' registering the original patent in 1940 and being awarded a governmental contract to produce a down insulated flight suit for the Air Force in 1942 along with a selected few manufacturers
Though produced at the same time as the alpaca lined B-11 the down insulated B-9 was deemed to expensive to continue producing and the USAF opted to cease any further contracts making originals pretty rare.
Buzz Rickson's reproduction is a supreme example of what makes this company so renowned, every detail of this (at the time) groundbreaking parka has been reproduced; the parka features a mouton lined hood and chin strap, down filled quilted pockets between the water repellent nylon / cotton and quilted rayon satin lining, each of the four pockets are wool lined and elasticated back belt ensures a comfortable close fit for better insulation.
All other details such as the Conmar zipper, correctly woven 100% wool cuffs and bakelite style buttons have faithfully and painstakingly reproduced to recreate this iconic item of clothing to a tee.
The ubiquitous down parka is a modern street wear staple, take it back to its origins and wear a piece of heritage technical clothing that true can claim to have been there first.
