Number Eight turquoise is famed for the beautiful 'spiderweb' matrix which runs through the stone and is one of the most collectable and sought after, being highly valued by collectors. The colours vary from light blue to deep blue with intricate shades of blue-green being found in between. The most common matrix is a rich golden brown which run throughoutåÊthe mineral, though the extremely sort after and rarer variations can be found with red or black matrix's.åÊ

The mine itself situated in Eureka County, Nevada and did not start producing turquoise until 1929, and has been through a number of different owners all deemed an important part of Nevadas rich turquoise community. The mine was sold in 1959 to a metal mining companyåÊwhich does not mine turquoiseåÊand today is no longer producing turquoise, though there are still some amounts available through private collections. The mine has been known under many different names, but the "Number Eight" name is said to have come for the last production of turquoise in 1976 which produced the highest grade of stone on the eight 'claim'.
