Continuing to be inspired by vintage military wear, this AW20 sees Soundman utilise exacting fabrics with inspired design. The Douglas from Soundman is an homage to an outstanding piece of utilitarian clothing design in the form of a 1940's British Army Dispatch Motorcycle Coat.

First introduced by the British Military before WW2, they were used up until the early 1960s. The Dispatch Rider Coat was initially designed to combat against the harsh elements with its 'built for function' ergonomic pocket placements coming in handy for Dispatch Messenger Bike Riders. As with many iconic pieces of Military issued clothing, the coat soon became the early base model design for Mackintosh's and Trench Coats alike.

These were issued by many manufacturer's with varying design twists and Soundman have taken the best of these into account for their Douglas coat. Cut from a heavy duty cotton in Japan (incredibly stiff and hard to sew) two large snap button pockets have been paired with one large slanted chest pocket as well as concealed hand warmers. The pockets have leather trims for an added touch of elegance. The front wraps over for a secure windproof front, with a belt to hold it down. The back hem snaps around the legs (originally to offer the rider an extra later of protection over their trousers).

The details on the Douglas all tie back to original garments and their functionality that they were designed for. The large front pockets, the oversized collar that can be worn up with an added chin strap for protection and the heavy weight cotton drill fabric. As with all Soundman garments the quality of materials and production is simply outstanding with each garment being elevated for modern day wear.
