Clinch are known for the artisanal quality with which founder Minoru Matsuura designs and crafts their offering.

The Engineer Boots specifically have an almost cult following, and it's easy to see why. Built around unique wooden lasts carved by hand, Clinch aims to recreate the build and style of 40's engineer boots from the ground up. All components are carefully sourced to create a boot that stands apart.

The CN Wide last which these boots are built around have a beautifully sculpted shape, arguably the most distinctive and desired detail of the Clinch Engineer. The fit is snug, contouring to the foot, with the intent of the leather moulding to the shape of your foot over time. Though described as a 'narrow' last, we find that the CN last can easily accommodate a USD with fitting and most foot-shapes.

For the first time we have the Engineer Boots in their infamous over-dyed black horsebutt. Sourced and hand selected from a tannery in Europe, the horsebutt used by Clinch is hand over-dyed, which with wear will gain a natural shine and reveal the leather's distinctive natural underlying colour; just like original examples of the 1940's.

These Engineers Boots have been hand welted throughout and feature a soft-toe, as well as a logger heel, using a reproduction 'O'Sullivan's' Heel Block (O'Sullivan's was an American manufacturer of heels and patented this style in 1899) & cork sole. The vamp front features a unique crease line through the centre, similar to vintage Engineer boot styles as well as their own styles. Complete with tonal stitching throughout, custom burnished nickel buckle adjuster and finished with internal pull straps.

These are listed in US Sizing. We recommend half a size down from your measured US Brannock Device if you are a D width. For wider feet we recommend your usual US Brannock Size.
