The roots of the Souvenir Jacket, or Sukajan in Japanese, can be traced back to American soldiers stationed in the Pacific following the end of World War II. During the post-war occupation, American troops began using traditional Japanese designs and hand-stitching them into the backs of their jackets to commemorate their time in Japan Popular designs included Japanese (and Chinese) style dragons, cherry blossoms and trees Some would also opt for artwork that could have ranged from local maps to Geisha girls.

Drawing from the post-war American presence in Japan the Sukajan jacket of the '40s through '60s has been beautifully reproduced by one of the best out there.

The body of the garment is cut in Japan from a unique acetate rayon, original to Tailor Toyo. Their choice and design of fabric are aimed at producing the most aesthetically vintage-looking piece possible. Taken from their vast archive in Japan, Tailor Toyo are able to successfully create a garment steeped in post-WW2 history with a truly authentic, vintage feel.

This special edition Sukajan is modelled on one from the 1950's and features an eagle and a dragon glaring at each other across a map of Japan. The map of Japan suggests that this style was most commonly sold at U.S. Military bases, while the red ribs that contrast the body colour scheme also follow a vintage example.

The reverse features a printed eagle pattern that has been entirely printed by hand and not a machine. This is a time consuming task and the results are a truly stunning jacket. These are limited in numbers and won't be re-stocked.
