Deriving from the coats' namesake town in the province of Antwerp in Belgium, the Duffle coat was typically constructed from a coarse, thick woollen material. The initial influence of what later would become the duffel coat we are familiar with today probably came from the Polish military Frock Coat, developed in the early part of the 19th century.

The Postman Duffle Coat from Allevol is inspired by a style issued to workers for the General Post Office (GPO) in the early 1960's in the UK. As government issue, these were sometimes also issued to the Royal Navy. These were were made by a number of manufacturers but most notably James Smith & Co from Derby, with original examples can be hard to find these days and would be typically labelled as size 1 or 2. These were fastened with four button wooden toggles that were attached with a cotton cord, which was also used to make the toggle loops.

The 'Pat' has been faithfully reproduced in the UK, sampling an original example from the Allevol archives. Cut from a heavy-duty melton wool that has been woven in the Bishu region in Japan (famed for woolen production in Japan) and made in the UK, the "Pat' features two large pockets and the traditional button front with toggle closure while the fixed shoulder cape provides added warmth. A detachable hood has been paired with button cuff strap while woven Allevol labels complete the look.
