Challenging the existing notion on vintage clothing, KUON revitalizes traditional Japanese boro and re-purposes these rich materials and fabrics for the modern day.

Arimatsu Shibori is a traditional Japanese tie-dying technique, normally produced in the Nagoya region in Japan. These Harrington style jackets from KUON use this method and more specifically the Itajime method when dyeing onto coloured fabric. Dating back to the Edo period, these methods are rooted in Japanese culture - there is even a Arimatsu Shibori Museum in Nagoya.

The Itajime dyeing method is used for cotton fabric whereby folded fabric is clamped between two wooden boards before being dyed. The clamped part is compressed, making it difficult for the dye to penetrate, giving the individual characteristics in the patterns.

Based on a classic Harrington style, the jacket features a zip front with button tab closure and throat tab, as well as button cuff adjusters. Button side adjusters have been paired with zip side adjuster to aid fit. A relaxed fit completes the look.
