Crafted by a member of the renowned Tsosie family, this vintage Navajo brooch showcases the distinctive artistry that has made their name synonymous with traditional silver and turquoise work. At its centre is a natural Kingman turquoise stone - steeped in history, Kingman is considered the oldest American turquoise discovered by man: the Natives of the Southwestern United States are said to have discovered the mine over 1,000 years ago, and this turquoise would have been at the heart of the Native culture's jewellry designs.
The silverwork is entirely handmade, featuring deep repoussé forms, scalloped edges and finely stamped details that frame the turquoise with classic Navajo character. The reverse bears maker and material markings, confirming its sterling construction and Tyrone stone origin, complete with a simple pin back.
