The Cotton Jacquard Robe from Real McCoy's is woven with traditional techniques in America, using a jacquard weave capable of producing the most intricate of designs. The jacquard loom was introduced to America in the 19th century during a period when only machine made blankets were available. This jacquard technology would revolutionise the way factories could produce patterned blankets, a stark contrast to the plain blankets that would have been produced on less progressive looms of the time.
Cut from 100% cotton in Japan, this Robe from McCoy's is inspired by various styles made by companies like Beacon Manufacturing Company. These blankets and loungewear were often sold at leading stores like Sears Roebuck & Co, Montgomery Ward, J.C. Penny and many other leading dry goods stores.
This example from McCoy's is cut with a shawl collar and is bound with a hand twisted rope belt. The rope is woven with large count cotton yarn and then dyed, blending the colours together. Finishing features include shell buttons, two patch pockets at the waist and single chest pocket, while a custom woven label completes the look.
