Arguably the finest Americana reproduction brand from Japan, the Real McCoy's painstakingly recreate and update original garments for the modern day offering the best from the past, replicated to perfection without compromise in Japan.

Early MA-1 specifications were continually revised based on feedback from pilots in the field. The J-8279A specification represents the second MA-1 model and was contracted only three times in 1957, making it a notably short-lived version.

While attention is often drawn to the rounded edge of the wind flap, requested by pilots, this detail was actually introduced from the second production order. The specification number itself primarily reflects changes to manufacturing methods and stitching standards, highlighting the ongoing refinement of the MA-1 during its early development.

This 2nd iteration of the MA-1 has been recreated by The Real McCoy's in Japan to their usual exacting standards. The nylon used for this MA-1 is a custom-produced fabric that faithfully reproduces the look and feel of the highly durable nylon developed in the 1950s. Originally invented by DuPont, Nylon 66 became the material of choice for military flight jackets due to its exceptional durability and improved flame resistance, setting the standard for early MA-1 production.

This version of the MA-1 from McCoy's features wool ribbing on the cuffs, waistband & collar, a period-correct detail later replaced with acrylic on subsequent versions, along with cotton wool pile interlining for insulation. Brass dot buttons are black oxide–treated to meet mil-spec, matching the authentic 1950s Talon sleeve zippers and wire front zipper, finished with a black leather pull tab. Practical details include diagonal slash pockets w/snap closure and a pen pocket on the upper left arm, staying true to the original military specification.
