Sun Surf is produced in Japan to original designs maintaining the authenticity and quality of Hawaiian shirts from the golden era of the style.

Each year, Sun Surf releases Limited Edition Hawaiian shirts that pay homage to Japan’s rich history, showcasing deep appreciation for the country’s renowned artists. For 2025, this series from Sun Surf celebrates the painters & of the Edo period, a time when Japanese art and culture flourished. Masterworks are faithfully reproduced on the canvas of the Aloha or Hawaiian shirt, showcasing a deep appreciation of the country's renowned artists.

Born in Kyoto in 1716 to a vegetable wholesaler, Ito Jakuchu devoted his life to painting, often retreating to the mountains in search of inspiration. His eccentric vision lives on through works that continue to fascinate to this day.

This aloha shirt from Sun Surf draws from Tsukumogami, one of Jakuchu’s whimsical masterpieces. According to Japanese folklore, objects that are 100 years old can gain a spirit and become Tsukumogami, mischievous beings known to play tricks on people. Rooted in this belief, these spirits became popular motifs in traditional Yokai art.

For this limited edition model, Sun Surf use a Fujiet Rayon, favoured for its soft drape & breathability. The art work used is then overprinted using an ink pigment, while all the other details of their classic Hawaiian shirts feature. An open collar, brown mother of pearl buttons (for this edition) & a single chest pocket are all present. A Jakuchu woven label completes the look. Each limited edition model comes with a presentation box.
