Introducing: Pendleton Woolen Mills

Pendleton Woolen Mills

Pendleton Woolen Mills is a family-owned American heritage brand, crafting premium wool blankets, apparel, and home goods since 1863. With mills still operating in Oregon and Washington, Pendleton is celebrated for its timeless designs, authentic craftsmanship, and iconic patterns inspired by Native American traditions and the landscapes of the West. Blending tradition with modern style, Pendleton continues to deliver quality products that embody durability, artistry, and a deep sense of place.

We’ve been admirers of Pendleton for as long as we can remember here at Clutch. It’s one of those names that sits at the very heart of Americana - a brand so rich in history that anyone who dives into the worlds of workwear, Americana, or classic outdoor style will encounter it sooner or later. From their iconic wool shirts to the instantly recognisable blankets, Pendleton has managed to remain both timeless and relevant, carrying forward over a century of craftsmanship.

We’re proud to have begun carrying Pendleton’s blankets, a cornerstone of their legacy and one of the most enduring symbols of American craftsmanship. For our first delivery, we’ve focused on some of the true classics -  patterns like the iconic Chief Joseph, a design that has been in continuous production since the 1920's. These blankets are more than just functional pieces to keep out the cold; they embody a history of weaving that stretches back over a century, with each pattern carrying its own story and sense of place. With their bold colours, intricate jacquard designs, and unrivalled quality, they’re as at home draped across a sofa as they are taken outdoors for a crisp winter evening.

Chief Joseph

The Chief Joseph blanket holds a special place in Pendleton’s history as the oldest ongoing design in their collection. First introduced in the 1920's, it remains one of their most celebrated and enduring patterns, deeply rooted in Native American-inspired design. Created to honour the heroism of Chief Joseph of the Nez Perce, the blanket’s bold motif is centred around arrowheads, symbolising bravery and pointing in all directions of Mother Earth - a reminder of strength, protection, and balance. Nearly a century later, it continues to stand as one of Pendleton’s most iconic and best-loved blankets.

Nike Robe Blanket (ACIF)

Pendleton’s collaboration with Nike’s N7 Fund, which supports Native American and Aboriginal communities in sport, blends innovation with tradition. Designer Derek Roberts drew from Native American pattern-work, starting with small arrows at the base that grow toward the centre, culminating in the N7 emblem: arrows pointing to the past, present, and future generations. A striking fusion of heritage and modern design.
