Clinch x Allevol Jodhpur Boots Shinki Horsehide Suede Brown
Clinch by Brass Tokyo x Allevol
The Clinch has become world-renowned for the artisanal quality with which founder Minoru Matsuura designs and crafts each style in the company's lineup. For this iteration of their famous Jodhpur Boot, London based Allevol have collaborated with Tokyo based Clinch (for their first ever collaboration) to come up with a limited pair of boots.
Built around unique wooden lasts carved by hand, Clinch aims to recreate the build and style of 1940's boots from the ground up. All components are carefully sourced to create a boot that stands apart.
The CN (Classic Narrow) last which these Jodhpur Boots are built on have a beautifully sculpted shape, arguably the most distinctive and desired detail of this hand-carved wooden last created by Clinch. The fit is snug, contouring to the foot, with the intent of the leather moulding to the shape of your foot over time. The all-important toe box style is un-structured, and reasonably flat keeping its shape without flattening out too much, and the vamp fits closely to the instep. Though described as a 'narrow' last, we find that the CN last can easily accommodate a US D-width fitting and most foot-shapes.
The Jodhpur Boot from Clinch is their take on a traditional Jodhpur style, although a little more refined, with some inspiration taken from their Engineers styles as well as their archive. These feature a logger heel, using a reproduction 'O'Sullivan's' Heel Block (O'Sullivan's was an American manufacturer of heels and patented this style in 1899). The vamp front features a unique crease line through the centre, similar to vintage Engineer boot styles as well as their own styles.
This pair uses a full-grain Shinki Horsehide Suede. Established in 1951 Shinki Hikaku is one of the only tanneries in the world to specialise in horse leather, and as such is able to produce extremely unique and rare leathers. Their tanning processes involve drying and ageing stages that take four to six months that end up producing leathers with a unique texture and grain.
The Shinki Horsehide Suede uppers are put together in three sections, with each section expertly cut by hand. Put together with intricate, tonal stitching, the Jodhpur boot also features a belt closure where two halves cross one another in an 'X' shape, before looping through to the outside shaft and finished with a brass buckle adjuster.
These are listed in US Sizing. For further information on sizing and fitting please visit our footwear size guide or drop us an email on info@clutch-cafe.com.
